What are the chances of having to get a joint replacement with rheumatoid arthritis?

Not always : A joint replacement is done for a severly damaged joint that can no longer function. We now have medications that can help stop the severe damage of rheumatoid arthritis. With these medications there will be far less joint replacements in the future. The earlier we begin these biologic therapies the better chance we have to stop the damage.

Depends : Depends on age of diagnosis, severity of disease and medical treatment. See a rheumatologist and get treatment early to prevent the destruction of your joints. If you need a joint replacement, realize it is extremely successful at treating the arthritic joint but this is the last stage of treatment, prevention is key.
