Type: What type of reconstruction are you considering? The procedures are widely varied but the most important bits of advice that can be applied to all: follow you surgeons pre and post operative instructions, ask questions before your surgery, if you every have concerns communicate with your physician.

Several items: Have a long discussion with your doctor about the pros and cons of the surgery and what wil hopefully be achieved from the surgery. Discuss recovery time and rehab process.
