How do you get a fix a really sore back?

Multimodal approach: I suggest a multi-modal approach to include maintaining a healthy weight, remaining fit, working on core strength, using ice/heat/tylenol/advil when necessary, and doing home exercises. In certain instances pt may be indicated. Sometimes, injections are tried. Surgery is indicated in certain instances when all else has failed.
