What is the distinction between a hemorrhoid and a hernia?

"Apples n' Oranges": A hemorrhoid is prominent tissue in the perianal region that is prone to bleed, itch, and/or cause pain. A hernia is a hole in the abdominal wall through which the lining of the abdominal cavity protrudes, creating a bulge. Both diseases can lead to 'protrusions' that require manual reduction; both may be adversely affected by excessive straining and lifting.
