Yes: Any kind of twisting, cutting, pivoting, hyper extension, deceleration, etc type of mechanism can cause an acl injury. It does not have to happen during sports.

Yes.: Any activity where your foot is planted and you twist or pivot, could tear the ACL. We have 3 patients in our practice that tore their ACL's, just twisting to get out their airplane seat.
