No: A woman that has given birth has gone through a tremendous strain and her body needs to rest and recover. It is not wise or healthy to go on any extreme diet as it may hinder your recovery. A healthy diet and exercise when it is tolerated is the best combination for weight loss and a speedy recovery.

Yes: A liquid diet is fine only if it is a well balanced liquid diet. Since the stomach adds liquid and mixes everything around, whatever is eaten ends up as liquid anyway. The important thing is to keep the calorie intake just enough to maintain the pre-pregnant weight. Then, the daily breastfeeding will use up the excess "gained" weight. There are about 500 calories in 25 ounces of breastmilk.

No: The only time a liquid diet would appropriate is when your doctor prescribes it for your health, if there is ever a reason to so. For the baby's sake, good solid nutritional habits are crucial. If you are concerned, discuss the subject with your doctor.
