When is it ok to let others hold the baby?

8 weeks: While some physicians will wait until 6 months of age and others will let you pass the baby around at 2 weeks, most doctors will agree that it is okay to let others hold your baby at 8 weeks of age. Of course, don't let anyone hold your baby if you know they are ill.

0 weeks: Family members will want to visit and hold your new baby to welcome them to the family. Healthy adults (preferably who have received a current flu and tdap vaccination) may hold your baby. Visitors who are ill, even with a small cold, should refrain from holding you baby to prevent accidental spread of germs. It is always a good idea for visitors to wash their hands before picking up baby.
