How does wound healing work?

Complicated process: Multiple factors involved. White blood cells and platelets travel to the site for immune system and blood clotting. Collagen fibers heal across, and new blood vessels grow in. Collagen fibers remodel. Proper body protein level and appropriate vitamin levels help with healing. Poor nutrition, diabetes, cigarette smoking, infection, poor blood supply, Prednisone can delay or prevent proper healing.

By processes: Wound healing works by the inflammatory cascade. When a wound happens, the body reacts to it just like any type of injury. Starts with hemostasis (blood clotting), inflammation stage (pain), proliferative phase (fibrosis) and then remodeling. The process from phase 1 to 3 is about 3 weeks and can take up to 1 year for remodeling from date of injury.
