Not cause: Bipolar is not caused by purely mental (psychological) processes but by a kind of inherited brain function. This is liable to cyclic changes, and is sensitive to seasons and other circadian cycles.The changes in brain state then profoundly influence how the mind functions: e.g., rapidly associative in mania, sluggish in depression. Mood is likewise affected.
