Simple sugar: Honey is a natural source of simple sugars: fructose, glucose, maltose, others. 4 cals/gm; easily absorbed (like other simple sugars), raises blood sugar like other simple sugars. Doesn't support bacterial growth ( a good thing), but can have spores of germ like botulism bacteria in it; so don't give it to infants or people with compromised immune systems.

Too much is too bad: Small quantities good for you. Too much of a good thing applies to honey. There is a lot of fructose in honey, so eating too much could lead to weight gain, allergies, acne, diabetes, pancreatic cancer. And honey is slightly acidic, so if you chow down on it regularly, it could erode tooth enamel. The sweetness of honey and sugar is about the same. So the recommended serving size is too.
