Can: Several outbreaks recorded from contaminated sprouts/seeds. Some can't be cooked, e.g. Alfalfa sprouts; increased risk with them.

Bean sprouts: Bean sprouts can easily be contaminated with bacteria such as salmonella and e. Coli. These cause GI illnesses (food poisoning) which can be severe. Cooking will kill the bacteria, though. http://tinyurl.com/6jgytk3.
