A member asked:

Can i take benadryl (diphenhydramine) allergy pills to sleep?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (diphenyhydramine) and other similar medication (doxylamine) are the ingredients in many (if not most) over the counter sleep aids. They are antihistamines (allergy meds) that have a side effect of sleepiness. It's not recommended to take them regularly as they are not a cure for insomnia and because they can lead to daytime drowsiness. 2 weeks is the maximum. Do not mix with alcohol.
