Low temperature: Low body temperature may be caused by heat loss from the body due to environmental exposure. Secondary causes of hypothermia in young people can be related to problems with the body's ability to regulate heat, as occurs in stroke or neurologic injury, spinal cord injury, low blood sugar, and in alcoholics or mentally ill who do not seek shelter from lack of recognition of cold.
