Less than you get!: The daily recommended amount is 2300 mg, unless you have htn/dm/kideney disease and then it is 1500 mg. The average amount for most americans is 3400 mg. Salt is essential for health, but too much causes problems. Our diets are the main culprits, especially processed food.
