Can do HCG: Ultrasounds do not detect a heartbeat until about 6 weeks from your last period (about 2 after when your period was due), but are much more accurate at 7 to 8 weeks. You can do blood testing for HCG (the pregnancy hormone) very early, including now.

5 weeks or more: Transvaginal ultrasound will reliably detect a preganancy once the pregnancy blood test, quantitative beta HCG test, is more than 1000. If you are 12 weeks pregnant, ultrasound will easily detect pregnancy.
