It can : The more caffeniated coffee one drinks can correlate with an increase in gouty flares. Though, no one is quite sure of the direct cause and effect of why this happens. Interestingly, caffeine has a similiar chemical structure to Allopurinol , which is a medication used to treat gout. It can also initiate or cause a flare up for first time users.
