How do you know what stage somebody is in with renal cancer?

Staging system.: To adequately stage a patient one must know the size of the tumor, the presence or absence of lymph node involvement and whether the disease has spread to distant organs such as the lungs or liver. With this information a patient is placed into one of four stages (stages 1, 2, 3, 4).
