Hard: A lump in your breast will feel harder and firmer than the surrounding breast. It might feel smooth like an olive or rough, but it will feel a bit different from the normal feel of your breasts. See your doctor so that they can teach you how to examine your breasts properly.

Variable: Anythng hat draws your attention and resists is worth evaluating. If you're concerned then your doctor should be. The goal of breast self exam is not to have patients diagnose cancer but to become aware and familiar with their oldies/breasts in order to be able to first detect a change and then seek out professional attention.
