No pain: Pain is relatively uncommon with breast cancer. A painful lump is more commonly a cyst. But please, have any suspicious or abnormal lumps checked out by your doctor.

Painless lump: Pain is not a common sign of breast cancer unless the mass is very large (you know something is abnormal). An early breast cancer may present with calcifications seen only on a mammogram. It is important to become familiar with your normal lumpiness so that if something feels different, you can be evaluated by your doctor.
