Several: Difficulty swallowing with food and liquids getting stuck. Unintentional weight loss. Anemia. Black stools. Unfortunately at times there are no symptoms. Stop smoking!

Depends: Unfortunately, patients with esophageal cancer are often asymptomatic until the disease is advanced. The most common presenting symptom is dysphagia (difficulty swallowing). Patients often describe solid food getting "stuck" on the way down. This is often associated with weight loss.
