Specificity: Nuclear antibodies are antibodies directed against the contents of the nucleus of the human cell. There are several types of nuclear antibodies including those directed against histone, chromatin, nuclear proteins, RNA and double stranded dna. Ds dna is specifically associated with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Subset of ANA: Antinuclear antibodies comprise of a number of specificities. One type is reactive with double stranded dna is more indicative of lupus. Other antibodies react with different components of nuclear including nucleoli, ribonuclear proteins complexes etc.
