You can also ask for a referral from friends or your md.

Primary Care Doc: Your primary care physician probably can make a good recommendation. Primary care docs often refer patients to specialists, and their patients report back to them, so they learn who is good and who isn't--from a patient's perspective. Therefore, your primary care doc is probably best informed to make a good recommendation for a psychiatrist or any other specialist.
