A 42-year-old member asked:

Can naphcon be used as an eye lubricant or moisturizer?

Not really: These drops are vaso-constrictors that constrict the blood vessels on the surface of the eye. They should only be used for a short time. Long term usage can cause rebound vaso-congestion which results in worsening redness in the eyes when the drop is not used. Using it more than a few times a day for a few weeks is likely too long. Artifical tears are better for a lubricant.

Short term only: Artificial tear drops are safer for long-term use. Naphcon is good once in a while.
