Is poor hygiene a sign of schizophrenia?

Possibly: Not all people who suffer schizophrenia have poor hygiene. Schizophrenics that have poor hygiene have lost the contact with reality that most people have in that they on longer care how others perceive them nor do they care about their own health.

Yes: Often times and in severe cases, a person with schizophrenia who is actively psychotic may completely ignore their personal hygiene as well as other important activities of daily life.

Poor hygiene: Poor hygiene doesn't automatically mean a person is schizophrenic, because there are many possible causes. Severely depressed people may neglect personal hygiene; people with dissociative disorders may periodically look this way too. I agree with my colleagues that people w/psychosis -- including mania, psychotic depression and schizophrenia -- can show it. Chronic drug abuse & alcoholism too.
