Youth, time, genes,: Most commonly occurs ages 10-30, but can occur any age. Cystic fibrosis a risk factor. More common with low fiber intake; more common in males; more common october to may (go figure); after some viral infections (which may be more common in the wintertime), some bacterial or parasitic infections (like amoeba); family history of appendicitis.

Having an appendix: Anyone with an appendix can get appendicitis. Symptoms of abdominal pain especially in the right lower quadrant, nausea, fevers, decreased appetite should prompt you to see a physician quickly. I have seen some reports that things such as constipation, family history, cystic fibrosis, even finger nail biting, as risks of causing appendicitis, but again anyone can get appendicitis.
