The : The appendix is a small pouch that is at the end of your colon, on the right side to be exact. If you touch the lower part of your abdomen on the right side then you will be in the area of the appendix. The exact function of the appendix is unknown. Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix. The causes of appendicitis can be infection, namely by a stomach virus or bacterial infection. Another cause of appendicitis is an obstruction of the appendix, either by a piece of hard stool or even food.

Appendicitis: The appendix is a small tubular extension off the big intestines in the lower right of your belly. If something gets caught in it and blocks it off, the bacteria and secretions inside grow and cause it to swell and become inflamed and painful. If not removed, it can burst and spread bacteria and wastes inside the abdomen. There is no real prevention for appendicitis... It just happens.
