How common is gastroschisis?

Incidence is rising: 20 years ago it would have been reported that about 1/10, 000 babies had gastroschisis. Now that risk may be as high as 3-4 in 10, 000 babies in some places. We do not know what is causing the risk of gastroschisis to rise.
