What happens when people go into septic shock?

Inflammation: Septic shock causes wide spread inflammatory response in the body which can be fatal. It causes low blood pressure and poor perfusion through out the body causing damage to multiple organ systems. It can cause respiratory failure by pouring fluid into the air sacs in the lungs (adult respiratory distress syndrome) and can also cause weakening heart pump function furthere complicating matters.
