What happens if adhesions keep coming back?

Sometimes surgery: Adhesions are like internal scars, occur after surgery of the abdomen and pelvis, can occur after inflammatory problems like ruptured ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease. May cause no symptoms ever; may cause pain and/or bowel obstructions decades later. Bowel obstructions treated with nasogastric suction, IV fluids, and time. If don't resolve with conservative treatment, surgery to cut.

No cure: It is not possible to cure adhesions, as they are a type of scar, or part of the healing process. Most adhesions in the peritoneal cavity are symptom free and therefore managed. If symptoms of bowel obstruction develop, and not amenable to non-surgical therapy (ng tube and bowel rest) then a surgical intervention will be indicated.
