Comprehensive: The care provided to a patient in a long term facility is usually geared towards restoring that particular patient to full functioning either independently or with minimal supervision without any risk of harm to self and/ or to others.

Multidisciplinary: In long-term hospitalization, there are are multiple avenues of treatment, some of which depends on areas of interest or focus in a specfic hospital. In general, you can expect medication treatment, individual and group therapies, and various recreational and activity based therapies. Family therapy will also be used as needed.

Uncommon: Long term care is not a common practice. Most units are acute, and only offer a 3-7 day stay.
