Less than you get: The daily recommended amount is 2300 mg, unless you have htn/dm/kideney disease and then it is 1500 mg. The average amount for most americans is 3400 mg. Salt is essential for health, but too much causes problems. Our diets are the main culprits, especially processed food. The mayo clinic has a great link with more info: http://www.Mayoclinic.Com/health/sodium/nu00284/.

0. + iodine, - salt: The human body does not require salt to function. It does require iodine which is found in ample supply in iodized salt and seafood. The amount of iodine depends on your age. See http://ods.Od.Nih.Gov/factsheets/iodine-healthprofessional/ for a full description of your iodine needs. For many, people, salt will also affect blood pressure (BP) so its usage needs to be monitored against BP effects.
