Doesn't matter: Either one. If you're otherwise healthy and aren't hospitalized occasionally for a chronic condition, then either specialty is qualified to be your doctor. If you are an adult (over age 15) with complicated chronic conditions or frequent hospitalizations, you should go to an internal medicine physician. They are better trained for that type of medicine than family medicine.

Both can help you!: Family physicians take care of children and adults. Internal medicine docs take care of adults. Younger or not, healthy or not, both specialists are here to take care of you.

Either. Depends. : Rather than whether a doctor is family practitioner or an internist, what is more important is that you find a physician with whom you can connect and develop a trusting professional relationship so that you won't hesitate to share any health concern or ask any question . Good luck.

It depends upon your health care needs. Family Medicine has a much broader scope than Internal Medicine. However Internal Medicine goes into much more details about a medical condition.
