JUST ASK: Not all pain managment docs implant pain pumps. It is worth asking your doctor about your options, including use of the pain pump.

Maybe never: Pain pumps are for individuals who respond to opioids but are having severe side effects due to escalating doses. Not everyone will benefit from a pump, so a trial will have to be done. Ideally this would require weaning off of all oral pain meds. There are long term complications with pumps so do your homework. I would also inquire about a spinal cord stimulator is not already tried.
