Insomnia can be...: ...Severe. However, Propofol is an intravenously administered drug used primarily in general anesthesia, and therefore, has to be administered by an anesthesiologist. It is not used for sleep (even off-label) for more reasons that i can explain in 400 words. For starters, it would have to be administered through an iv, something a patient obviously couldn't do him or herself.

Say Michael Jackson: Anesthesia such as with Propofol (diprivan) is not "sleep." it is a medical coma. People with insomnia can get very desparate and turn to drugs/alcohol/etc for sleep. It does not treat insomnia but it does make you unconscious.
