The PSA & fPSA : Most men are screened with a psa blood test. This test is specific for the prostate but not specific for prostate cancer . It may be elevated by infection, inflammation or benign enlargement. The free psa fraction (fpsa) helps identify men at higher risk for cancer. Perhaps most important is to get a psa at age 40 or 45 as a baseline and then to be able to track changes (psa velocity) over time.
