Why do cold medication labels instruct you to consult a doctor before use if you have a thyroid disorder?

More Side Effects: Most cough & cold remedies include a decongestant which mimics adrenaline and can cause the heart to beat too fast, or make people feel shaky or lightheaded. Having too much thyroid hormone can also cause the heart to beat too fast, or make people feel shaky or lightheaded. Caffeine (coffee) and nicotine (smoking) can also do this. Combining two or three of these can make any symptoms much worse.

Decongestants: Decongestants can exacerbate high blood pressure, causing dangerous spikes. Some people have a type of thyroid disorder with too much thyroid hormone--hyperthyroidism--which can also cause high bp. Ann additive effect can be dangerous.
