Is there a clogged artery in my neck, if my doctor hears noises there?

Not always: Just hearing noises in the neck, in medical terms known as a carotid bruit, does not necessarily imply carotid blockage. In fact, the most common cause of a neck bruit is transmitted noise from the aortic arch, the main blood vessel leaving the heart that branches to provide blood throughout the body.
