A member asked:

How does leukemia effect your cardiovascular system?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mostly indirectly: Acute leukemia can cause anemia (bleeding or low production) which if severe leads to low blood pressure, fast heart rate, stressing the heart and may lead to congestive heart failure. Infection and sepsis can happen leading to shock and rapid death if untreated. The treatment of leukemia may involve drugs that affect the heart and multiple blood transfusions that can cause fluid overload.
