How long does an allergy skin test usually take?

Consider: Instead of doing a skin test, your primary care physician can now order allergy testing via blood test. You do not need to be fasting and results arrive in a few days.

Technically, minutes: Once the test is placed, it is read in 10-15 minutes. However, most patients are tested to a number of different allergens reflecting their food or environmental exposures. In addition, lower concentrations and different techniques are used first (percutaneous vs. intradermal) to reduce the chance of big reactions. Call your allergist for a reasonable expectation.
