DXA: The standard imaging modality to assess your bone density is the dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry or DXA (formerly known as dexa). Do not confuse it with bone scan however. Women over the age of 65 should get a DXA scan (or sooner if risk factors are present).

No: This answer depends on the amount of fusion, the location, and the bones involved. There are some genetic disorders that lend to large fusions, creating very abnormal skulls. Crouzon's disease is one such disorder. If fusion is detected or found on imaging, immediate follow up with a neurosurgeon and geneticist is required to help make that decision.

Dentist may have kit: There are several tests that swab the teeth and the solution made from the swab can be analyzed.

Provided original answer
I was referring to the Cari-free System where the teeth are swabbed, the swab is placed in a special solution, shaken, and placed in a calibrated electronic device that measures the activity level of the bacteria on the tooth. There are studies to validate that the number reported correlqtes with a predication of future caries incidence.
