A little: Scleritis is an inflammation of the whites of the eyes and overlying conjunctiva. It is deeper than the more common episcleritis. Treatment takes a while, and there is a risk of melting of the sclera with bulging of the contents of the eye inside. The cause varies from unknown, to association with rheumatic diseases and some autoimmune diseases. This can be a medical emergency.
