A member asked:

Will wearing contact lenses when i have nearsightedness cause me to have astigmatism?

No effect: Contacts rest upon a layer of tears on top of the cornea of the eye. Astigmatism is an ovalness of the eye and would require a long pressure upon the eye in an oblique direction which contacts will not do. So enjoy your contacts.

Little effect: Contacts fit properly and maintained properly will not cause astigmatism. Lenses that are too tight or over wearing of lenses can cause problems how ever.
