Eye infection: This is the medical term for an infection within the eye - almost always a complication of eye injury and sometimes surgery with an open eye. Depending upon the organism it can be very distressing but treatable but also can be very dangerous with certain types that can destroy the eye and vision. It is a true emergency requiring immediate treatment.
