How do colored contact lenses work?

OK: Colored contact lenses are either tinted or have the color applied to the outer surface of the lens so that the lens is opaque. The color of the contact lens masks or covers the true color of the eye.

Colored contacts work very well in people with light colored eyes, and not as well in dark eyed people.
