Warm compresses: Hard to say for sure from your description what exactly is the problem, but certainly could be a stye or chalazion. It is ok to try a washcloth soaked in very warm water as a warm compress a few times a day, for about 5-10 minutes at a time. If there is no improvement within a couple of days, or worsening at any time, you should see an ophthalmologist promptly.

Stye: Warm compresses frequently, artificial tears, ointment at night. If persistent, may need antibiotic/steroid med, intralesional steroid, or excision and drainage.
