Not always the heart: Pulmonary edema is a term indicating fluid in the lungs. It can be cardiogenic ie heart failure or noncardiogenic. Causes of noncardiogenic pulmonary edema include pneumonia, autoimmune, cancer, etc. The key to preventing recurrances is to evaluate the cause and treat it.
