Possibly: Advanced kidney cancer is difficult to control, but there have never been as many options for potentially effective treatment as we have now. Depending on the type of kidney cancer (clear cell), sometimes dramatic responses to new medications ("targeted therapy") can be seen with measurable improvements in survival. Clinical trials are available at major medical centers. Sadly, cures remain rare.

Stage 4 kidney ca: 5 year survival rate for kidney cancer spread to other organs ( st 4) is 0-20%. This has somewhat improved a little with approval of at least 7 new treatments over last few years. Certain characteristics of the patient & the cancer help to categorize patients into low, intermediate & high risk groups for poor survival.
