New floaters/flashes: New floaters warrant a retinal exam looking for retinal tears and breaks which can lead to vision threatening retinal detachment. If all is deemed ok by the doctor, then be on the look out for a change of floaters in number or quality; or flashing lights -- any of these changes would warrant a re-examination of the retina.
