A member asked:

Temporary weakness on one side of body is a stroke, right?

Unilateral weakness: Sudden weakness on one side of the body could represent either a transient reversible ischemic event (tia, lasting oly a short time) or it could last for anywhere from 24 hrs to permanent (might be a stroke). Appropriate evaluation and imaging are essential as quickly as possible.

Not really: Temporary blood flow disruption called TIA"s typically reverse after 20-30 minutes. Persistent focal problems would be more consistent with a stroke. Transient focal weakness may be present with complex migraine events, and usually a fixed stroke does not develop.
