Not necessarily: Hopefully you can lower your hgba1c with proper diet, regular exercise and medications. That being said, weight loss surgery is very effective at correcting out of control diabetes. In fact, bariatric surgery is being used effectively in normal weight diabetics these days.

Focus on wt loss: With an elevated hba1c, you might have early type 2 diabetes. With modest obesity, an appropriate diet and guidance could help you lose weight and resolve this problem. With greater obesity, surgery could be considered. Get some medical opinions.

Maybe: There are several studies out there demonstrating that bariatric surgery is more successful at treating diabetes than medications. If you are morbidly obese and have diabetes you may want to consider seeing a bariatric surgeon to see if weight loss surgery is right for you.

It is one option: that's very effective in treating diabetes or "pre-diabetes". Various surgeries help to different degrees, but in general weight loss will help restore your A1C to normal. With the sleeve gastrectomy and bypass, hormonal changes also improve your insulin sensitivity and help resolve diabetes. Surgery is 1 option, but diet, exercise, & weight loss will help regardless. See a surgeon for more info!
